Residents urged to remain calm and cautious during storms

Don't panic, take precautions to safeguard yourself and your family during a storm.

Durban South residents are urged to not panic but to take precautionary measures during today’s heavy rain and cold conditions (15 November).

The warning issued by the South African Weather Service says the heavy rains and cold conditions may lead to localised flooding. Snowfall has already reported to have fallen in some parts of KZN.

The SA Weather services said residents should not panic but take precautionary measures to ensure safety during this period.

Tips on how to stay safe in bad weather conditions:

  • Stay indoors and off the roads due to wet conditions.
  • Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles.
  • If trapped within a vehicle by rising waters, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground.
  • Residents living in informal settlements are also advised to secure their roof sheeting.

Residents are requested to please only call the Disaster Management Call Centre for emergencies on 031 361 0000.
