YWP WI receives lesson in importance of wills

Next month the sales table will be double as each and every member is asked to contribute an article and to bring a small plate of snacks.

PRESIDENT of Yellowwood Park Women’s Institute (WI) Sharon Quail opened the October meeting with the WI prayer and a big welcome to all members and visitors.

Special thoughts go out to members who were unwell and unable to attend but the WI hopes to see them soon.

YWP WI was sad to hear of the death of Judge Kay Mckee.

The president then introduced the speaker of the evening, Gareth Peters, an attorney and conveyancer practising in Durban. Having been raised in the area, he knew many of the WI members.

He spoke on the importance of making a will which sets out how you wish your estate to be finalised. He stressed that as you will not be there, your assets must be distributed exactly how you mentioned in your will.

An important point is that no beneficiary or executor can sign as a witness to your will. It must be quite independent witnesses. There were many questions from members on vital points, for which Gareth had an answer.

Then it was on to the tea break, which was enjoyed with refreshments supplied by members. YWP WI received an invite to the Stainbank Christmas party on Tuesday, 5 December.

Once again members were overwhelmed by the amount accumulated at the sales table – thanks to Alida and Sharon.

Next month the sales table will be double as every member is asked to contribute an article and to take a small plate of snacks. It will also be a social games evening with lots of fun arranged by the social hostess Vanessa Wilesmith. There are no competitions for next month. The Christmas party will be in December. Let the treasurer know for catering but the WI hopes to see everyone and their partners.

YWP WI was sorry to receive the resignation of Wendy van Eyk who has been a member forever but it extends best wishes to her on her new exciting adventure. Birthday greetings were extended to members who celebrate this month – enjoy the day. Amazing judge Linda Melson then gave a quick talk on next year’s Congress and other thoughts on the competitions, before vice president Roybn Murray read out the competition results.
