Storm lays waste to Wingate Road home

A MONTCLAIR family has had to pick up the shattered pieces of their belongings and their home after the #DurbanStorm ravaged their home, leaving them with almost nothing but the clothes on their back.

Two years of memories and turning their Wingate Road abode into a family home was ripped away from them in the space of a few hours. Their bedroom and open plan kitchen was destroyed, with some exterior walls caving in.

Damages to their home were extensive but luckily nobody was harmed

The Van Der Watt family, comprising two adults, their daughters aged six and seven and a nine-month-old baby as well as their dog were fortunately unharmed as they weren’t at home at the time of the storm. Despite their hardships, mom Nikita said she is doing her best to keep up their spirits.

“We have faith and we believe we will overcome this difficult situation. Even though we have lost everything, I am grateful for the lives of my family,” she said.
The family reaches out to the community for help as they await assistance from the city’s disaster management department.
