Report missing pets to SPCA

Let the SPCA know if you have found an animal.

TOTI SPCA pleads to residents if they find a kitten, cat, puppy or dog to report it to the animal welfare organisation immediately.

“Even if you decide to keep the animal on your property until the owner is found, be aware it may be someone’s missing pet, said SPCA PRO, Michelle Hannan.
The organisation had a previous case where someone brought in a cat they had been keeping and feeding for three months and decided to hand it over to the SPCA.

“Our staff looked through the ‘lost book’ and found the owner had reported the cat missing to us three months ago. They are now happily reunited and there were many tears. You may think you are doing the best for the animal but somewhere, someone is missing their baby.”

The SPCA generally advises against putting photos of the animal on Facebook, as anyone could claim it as theirs. Take the animal to your local vet or shelter to check whether it has been chipped. This may help in finding the owners sooner. Let the SPCA know if your animal has been found, if you have reported it missing to them. Always report a found or a lost pet, call the Amanzimtoti SPCA on 031-904-2424/5 and email a photo of the animal that has been lost or found to info@spcatoti.co.za. Include yours and the animals details.
