Park’s location is ill-advised

EDITOR – While it is commendable to see my successor engaged in an hands-on capacity in the setting up of a play park near Shortt Rd in Fynnlands (SUN, 25 August), the location of this park leaves much to be desired.

First, it is in an isolated area near bush in which vagrants may lurk.

From a safety and security point of view, that is hardly a place where young mothers or grandparents would seek recreation for children.

Second, there is no fence between the park and the railway line – a danger which needs no elaboration.

Third, apart from a nearby block of flats, the park’s remoteness from a more densely populated residential area is a further reason why its location is ill-advised. A far better location for children’s recreation would be the fenced in and walled plot near the intersection of Turner Street with Island View Road. Situated adjacent to several residential properties, it is not only more accessible but offers an environment that is secure from possible criminal elements.
