Troy wins titanic battle for berth in men’s open singles final

On Friday morning the weekly Bluff Meats men’s bowls will be run by Tomcat Cavanagh and his team.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club’s Bluff Meat Supply men’s bowls played on Friday morning was won by Dudley Dorrofield, Robbie Carr and Ron Parsonage who sneaked ahead of Kurt Spack, Tom Cloete and Ivor Aylward with a plus nine shot difference to beat them by two shots.

Sportsmen’s prize went to Thys Moolman, Robin de Gouviea and Henry Welgemoed. Graham Bransby and Kurt Spack chose the lucky numbers on the weekly raffle sheets to win the roast pork and beef respectively. Winners on the first board were Dudley Dorrofield and Gerald C. Royle and Thys Moolman and Andy Cloete scooped the winnings from the second board.

The second semi-final of the men’s open singles between Terry Micholson and Troy Garland was contested on Friday morning. After a mammoth battle, Troy won the game 21–19 and will take on Dave Carroll in the final. Dave emerged the winner of the first semi-final against Thys Moolman. The winner of the final will be crowned the men’s champion for 2017 and will represent the club in the PNB Champion of Champions competition in August.

The community is invited to attend Wednesday’s development bowls initiative and try their hands at mastering the bias on the greens. Play starts at 3pm and bowls are available.

This week there will be a buzz of activity on the greens at Wentworth BC. Starting at 9am on Wednesday morning the Chicken Shack pairs competitors will battle for prizes. On Thursday morning the Rawsons breakfast trips tournament starts at 9am. Play will be preceded by the breakfast supplied by the Game Changers kitchen. The games will be shortened to accommodate the accumulated score prize giving after the competition.

On Friday morning the weekly Bluff Meats men’s bowls will be run by Tomcat Cavanagh and his team. Sunday sees the regular contestants in the Big Jim pairs take to the greens in an attempt to win the prizes sponsored by Grand Rapid Spur. Play starts at 9am.

All these competitions promise exciting bowls and spectators are invited to the club to enjoy the enthusiasm of the bowlers on the greens. Meals and refreshments are available at all games.

Condolences are extended to Steve Baker, Russell (jnr) and Jackie Wishart on the death of the club’s life member and long-time stalwart, Russell Baker. Russell’s larger than life presence and constant support of the club’s activities will be sorely missed by all members. Details of a memorial for him will follow.
