SUNDAY, 9 JULY: The Rhodesia Association of South Africa incorporating the Flame Lily Foundation holds its annual Rhodes and Founders sadza and vellies get-together at Musketeers/German Club, 7 Barham Road, Westville from 11am. This is an open invitation to all Rhodesians, young and old, to join in. There will be an annual Vellie drinking competition, so those of you who will enter should take along their Vellies. For R30 entry per adult the association supplies the braai fire, sadza and gravy. Live music will also be provided. Take your own meat and perhaps a salad to share. There will be limited meat available to purchase. There is a cash bar, so do not take any refreshments. Call Jill de Beer on 083-449-8422 if you will attend, to allow for catering purposes.

 

MONDAY TO FRIDAY, 3 TO 7 JULY: Crossroads Community of Christ Baptist Church’s annual Holiday Bible School takes place in Montclair community hall in Wood Road, opposite Pick ’n Pay. All children from grades 1 to 6 are welcome at no charge. The school starts at 9am and closes at 12.30pm each day, but children are asked to arrive a little earlier for registration. There will be Bible stories, songs, games, crafts, refreshments and puppets. For more details, call Kathy on 073-016-5472 or Sue on 062-568-9269. SATURDAY 8 JULY – Arcadia Retirement Home fête in its hall from 8.30am. The home is in Peacehaven Place, Bluff opposite Marlborough Park Primary School. Go along and savour the lovely homemade snacks, get some bargains at various stalls and generally have a great morning.

 

THURSDAY, 13 JULY: Montclair Senior Citizens Club get together at Montclair Methodist Church hall from 9am. All pensioners are welcome. Pay R5 for a cup of tea and cake and enjoy meeting and making new friends. Annual membership fees are R30. There are raffles, the proceeds of which are used to pay towards the entertainers.

 

SATURDAY, 15 JULY: A bird course entitled ‘weavers’ will be presented by Steve Davis at Paradise Valley Nature Reserve Conference Centre, Pinetown from 9am until 1pm. Registration is at 8.30am. The cost is R80 per Birdlife member and R100 per non-member. Take along a notebook and pen or pencil, bring binoculars for afterwards. A print-out will be provided. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available on arrival and mid-morning. If you would like to stay for lunch afterwards, take your own picnic baskets. SUNDAY, 23 JULY: Camino de Santiago St James’ Feast Day at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Old Main Road, Kloof.

Starts at 9.30am until 3pm. Blessing of pilgrims, bring and share lunch. Take your own drinks, plate and cutlery. R20 donation for car guard and donation to the church. Call Syl Nilsen on 083-474-8086 or Jenny Rooks on 084-952-0622.
