Wentworth BC’s inter club league men bring home full league points

CONGRATULATIONS are extended to Sharon de Kock who won the women’s open singles final at Wentworth Bowling Club and will go forward to represent the club in the Port Natal Champion of Champions later this year.

Wednesday’s Family and Friends development bowls proved to be a good afternoon for Johan Nel and Lorraine White who won the day’s play.

Money for a raffle was donated by Honey Kitchenbrand and Cheryl Waterman. This was won by Ann Bonthrone and Dudley Sanders. The 60/40 board draw was won by Bokka van der Westhuizen with Harry Zietsman taking second prize. Members of the community who would like to try their hand at the game of bowls are reminded of the Family and Friends sponsored development bowls played on Wednesday afternoon at 3pm. Visitors are welcome and membership is not required.

Bluff Meat Supply men’s bowls saw Snowy Howes drawn with Robbie Carr and Ben Venter prove too strong for their opposition and take top spot on the winner’s podium. In second place were Norman Moore, Brian Smith and Ken Koch. The sportsmen’s prize went the way of Gerald C Royle, Tom Cloete and Johan Nel. Once again there was a clamour for tickets on the two meat raffle sheets for the sizable roasts generously donated by Bluff Meat Supply.

This week Robbie Carr took home the substantial pork roast and Phil ‘The Milkman’ Hill left the club with a smile on his face and the beef roast in hand.

Two 60/40 boards were drawn with Ron ‘Bias’ Addinall and Robin de Gouveia taking the first prizes and Tomcat Cavanagh and Dorro Dorrofield scooping the second prizes.

The women were busy on Saturday when the drawn fours competition was played to finality. The team comprising Jo Jo Jordaan, Eileen du Plessis, Zoë Dougal and Lorraine White proved too strong for all their opposition and they played their way to the honours board as the champions for 2017.

The second round of the men’s interclub league was played on Saturday. The A side travelled down the road to meet local rivals at Bluff Bowling Club on their greens. The B side played at home against visitors from Queensburgh Bowling Club. Both teams did spectators and supporters proud by winning all their games and bringing full league points home.

This week will be a busy one at the club. On Wednesday the monthly Chicken Shack pairs will be played at 9am. Also at 9am on Thursday morning, the bowlers in the Rawsons breakfast trips will take to the greens. On Friday morning the regular bowlers in the Bluff Meat men’s bowls will take to the greens and the week will end with the Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim pairs competition being played on Sunday.

A karaoke evening has been arranged for Friday, 5 May at 6pm. Platters for six people will be available for R25. Plans are afoot for a bumper Mother’s Day on Sunday, 14 May. Game Changers kitchen offers a lunch which includes a lamb roast, with all the trimmings, and a marscapone biscuit stack dessert for R5 per head. Bookings for this are essential. Visitors are welcome and are invited to contact Susan on 078-277-1826 to book. The lunch will be preceeded by a game of fun bowls for those who wish to play.

Game Changers kitchen will prepare their daily specials and the regular pub meals on offer to members and visitors. Call Marike on 071-594-1225 for further details.

The hall is available for hiring for private functions and braai facilities are on offer for corporate functions and team building events. The big screen can be set up to watch sporting highlights.
