Brighton Beach SAPS turns the spotlight on gun violence
The aim of the project was for community members to report those who are in possession of unlicensed firearms.
GUN violence was the focus of the day during Brighton Beach SAPS’ brochure distribution campaign on the Bluff on Wednesday, 19 April.
Together with members of Blue Security, the Brighton Beach SAPS division media monitoring handed out brochures at the intersection of Tara and Greys Inn roads.
“Various operational activities have been mandated as part of the National Strategy of the SAPS to combat crime during the Easter holiday period,” said Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
For two hours, the officers handed out brochures with information on gun violence.
“The aim of the project was for community members to report anonymously those who trade and are in possession of unlicensed firearms.”
The brochures included details on the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000), gun violence prevention, the requirements for being deemed fit to possess a gun licence, protecting children and gun safety.
Brighton Beach SAPS management thanked Blue Security for their partnership and sponsoring the brochures and Capt Le Roux for creating the brochures, securing the partnership and for her operational deployment.

“Lawful gun owners who fail to comply with the regulations of the Firearms Control Act can also be reported. Enquiries with regard to the Act can also be made with the National Firearm call centre on 012-353-6111.”
