Sports workshop announces exchange programme for South Durban youth

The SDB ABM hopes to instill a sense of pride in local youths.

AN exchange programme will uplift local youths and provide them with the chance to learn from their European equals.

South Durban Based Area Based Management (SDB ABM) in partnership with the Prince Cyril Zulu Zone Sport Confederation (PCZZSC) and department of sports and recreation hosted a two-day youth sports development workshop on 23 and 24 March.

“A leader is a person who influences others. Our role is to guide and support them to be sports people so they can find their talents,” said Carl Webster, chairman of PCZZSC.

A youth leadership programme will afford Durban South youngsters the chance to learn about leadership and cultural differences. They will travel to Germany as part of an exchange programme to learn from others who will then travel to SA to learn from their local counterparts.

“Sports has the power to change our children’s lives. It can unite people. For far too long people have been crippled by the social ills that rob our children of their future. Sporting activities can inspire our youth to achieve more out of life and stay away from drugs,” said SDB ABM municipal services manager, Sifiso Xulu.

SDB ABM senior manager, Eurakha Singh added: “Social ills have crippled our youth in our communities. We want to uplift the youth of South Durban through sport so they can be exposed to opportunities that exist in the sporting arena.”
