What weird words do you know?
YOUR Wednesday Word this week is honorificabilitudinity.
This mouthful is a rather loquacious word for honourableness – to be honourable. No longer used in the daily English lexicon, honorificabilitudinity is one of my favourite words.
At 22 letters, it is one of the longest words in the language and derives from the Latin word, honorificabilitudinitas, which also provided English with the even longer honorificabilitudinitatibus, which means the state of being able to achieve honours.
The fun with this word is trying to pronounce it without stumbling or speaking slowly – something I am yet to do. What about you? Are you able to say it properly and what other words do you battle to pronounce?
