CPR revives long distance truck driver at Bayhead after his heart stops

Driver had driven from Rustenburg to Durban with chest pain

A long distance truck driver was treated at the truck stop in Bayhead on Monday morning for chest pains.

At about 10am on Monday, 27 March, Netcare 911 paramedics were called after the truck driver had driven from Rustenburg to Durban. The driver – a man in his late 40s – reportedly suffered chest pain from early in the morning but drove all the way to Durban where people at the truck stop decided to call for medical help.

Paramedics loaded the man into the ambulance when his heart suddenly stopped. The advanced life support paramedics and his team immediately started with advanced life support resuscitation. After a few minutes of CPR and being defibulated three times, the man’s heart started to beat and he regained consciousness.

The Netcare 911 paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital where he is receiving the necessary cardiac care.

This shows firstly the effectiveness of early CPR and defibrillation. It is also very important to go for regular medical check-ups, and if you experience chest pain, seek medical assistance immediately.
