The search party which resumed for missing one-month-old baby, Siwaphiwe who was abducted when hijackers fled in her mother’s car from a Durban mall yesterday, has been called off after it resumed at the Cato Manor Sports Grounds earlier today (Saturday, 11 March).
The public, who have expressed an outpouring of sympathy for the parents of the missing child, were urged to join in the search party which congregated at the fields, according to paramedics who were at the site.
Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care paramedics, the police search and rescue unit as well as the dog unit searched the bush on the periphery of the fields. In an update at 10.20am, he said police and the searchers had combed through the area from the Sasol garage in Bellair Road to just past Wakesleigh Road.
As at 1pm, the child had yet to be found and the paramedic group provided an update saying that police had called off the search. (Voiceclip below)
While the hijackers abandoned Siwaphiwe’s mother’s Yaris in Montclair’s Moody Road yesterday afternoon, there was no trace of the infant or her pram and car seat with had been in the car.
Anyone with information can share it with their nearest police station or call 10111. The investigation is being handled from Durban Central police station.
