New acting commander takes helm

A NEW commander has taken over the reins at Brighton Beach police station.

Lieutenant Colonel Sinayo Mtshali was appointed as acting station commander on 9 February, following outgoing station commander Carel Grobler’s promotion to brigadier.

Brigadier Grobler will move to Kimberley to take up the post of provincial head of management interventions in the Northern Cape as of Wednesday, 1 March.

He has been with the police for 39 years, 23 of which he has served as a colonel. He moved to Brighton Beach SAPS at the end of 2010 as colonel and previously also worked in Montclair, Pinetown, Toti and at provincial head office.

Brig Grobler said he has left behind a strong management core, which has seen crime figures drop in the last five years.

“I always said don’t meet a standard, exceed it. And I believe the management team at Brighton Beach will do just that. We have a legacy to leave behind once we leave – to train the next generation. If there are problems with tthe next group of leaders once we are done, we are the ones at fault. That is why we must work to ensure they succeed,” said Brig Grobler.

Lt Col Mtshali will have been in the police force for 29 years this July. She started at Brighton Beach as CSU commander and moved on to become vispol commander before being placed as acting commander of the station.

During her policing career, she has worked at Montclair and Isipingo, before transferring to Brighton Beach.

“Thank you to the community for their support. I have enjoyed a great partnership with the community over the years and without them I could not have done my job properly,” said Brig Grobler.

“I am certain I have 100% of the community’s support and I believe we will work closely together, along with my fellow SAPS members. I look forward to this new role and to working with everyone,” added Lt Col Mtshali.
