Bowls aplenty at BBC

On Sunday morning, the action moves on to the Bluff pairs competition where a good field is expected.

COMETH Friday, cometh the rain as the Bluff Bowling Club (BBC) hosted its mixed twilight trips in wet and windy weather.

A few of the stronger teams were able to take advantage of the challenging conditions and after week one, the teams of Paul White, Bridget White and Dave Le Roux, and Robert Mhlongo, Eddie Human and Jay Retief are the early pacesetters. With five weeks of bowls still to play, the competition is wide open with a quality field competing.

Friday night’s meat hamper was won by Maree and Linda and the lotto jackpot was a carry-over. On Saturday morning the Port Natal novice men’s singles second round matches were played at Durban Bowling Club, with BBC having two remaining representatives in the competition. In the first game of the day Sheldon Wicks went down 21-10, but later Chad Wilson managed to reverse the score line and win through to round three. The next round of the men’s and women’s draw will be played this Saturday morning at the same venue, where Louise Bredenhann will also be representing BBC.

Looking ahead it is set to be a busy weekend for the club, as it hosts three competitions with bowlers from around the district set to compete. Friday morning it will be the turn of the ever popular June and Glynis’ 3-2-1 killer competition, followed in the evening by week two of the twilight trips.
