Institute’s festive outreach to children grows

Local volunteers to provide entertainment and gifts to more than 750 children.

HUNDREDS are children are set to descend on the Clairwood Tamil Institute this Saturday, 17 December for the annual Clairwood children’s toy story project.

The event, which runs from 8.30am to 2.30pm, began nearly a decade ago with 76 needy children. Over the years that number has grown and last year 526 children attended. To date the institute has confirmed that 768 children will attend this year’s event.

Children will get to meet popular Disney characters and have a photo taken with Santa which they can take home with them. The wonderland of décor and myriad of fun and games including clowns, comedians, magicians, pony rides, quad bikes, arcade games, jumping castles and mechanical bull, along with food, sweets and cool drinks will delight the children.

More than 100 volunteers will ensure the day is a success and each child will leave with a gift chosen for them according to their gender and age, and a stationery kit, hygiene kit and Christmas hamper.

“We must thank all sponsors who through the Clairwood Tamil Institute make this possible for the poor children to enjoy the festive season in good spirits, hence our motto ‘putting a smile on a child this festive season’,” said Clairwood Tamil Institute president, Mervyn Reddy.

Anyone wanting to volunteer or become a sponsor should call Vaijeshwari Reddy on 079-502-7654.
