Seven wicket win for Quins’ deserving 3rds

The fourth side took on Delta five in a 30 over division two match at Harlequins 2.

HARLEQUINS’ second team played a 40 over a side challenge reserve league match against East Coast 2 on Sunday, 27 November at Danville Park two.

This match was rescheduled on two occasions due to poorly maintained municipal facilities.

Quins 2 batted first, setting a target of 123 runs. They were unfortunately dismissed in the 29th over with 11 overs not used up. W Van Der Sloot scored 33 runs at number three and Theuns Jacobs compiled 30 runs at number four. Quins were unable to prevent East Coast from surpassing the target, which they did in the 34th over with three wickets remaining.

Fast bowler Mark Goveia delivered 48 balls, conceded 32 runs and captured two wickets and medium paced seamer Wayne Rittmuller had the same bowling analysis, while conceding nine runs less.

Quins’ third team took on UKZN 3 in a 30 over a side division one match at Harlequins 1. UKZN 3 batted first on an underprepared wicket surface and slow outfield, in hot sunny conditions. They accumulated 109 runs, being dismissed in the 28th over.

Stalwart veteran seamer Coenie Germishuysen, bowling through the discomfort of recent knee surgery, captured three opposition wickets for 23 runs in five overs. Medium pacers Shaun Nichol and junior player Heath Manicom took two wickets each and Pierre Horns’ spell of four overs is mentionable as two were maidens, conceding just two runs and capturing one wicket.

Quins 3 responded exceptionally well with opening batsmen Warren Torguis and Brett Williams topscoring with 43 and 28 runs respectively. Lloyd Watts was undefeated on 17 runs to take Quins through to a deserved victory by seven wickets in the 22nd over.

The fourth side took on Delta five in a 30 over division two match at Harlequins 2. The wicket was slow, the outfield’s lawn was long, but the hot sunny conditions were cricket favourable. Quins 4 managed a reasonable total of 128 runs, being dismissed in the 23rd over. Opening batsman R Olivier top scored with 22 runs and Mark Len Ferna De La Motte contributed 20 runs. H Vosse was undefeated with 19 runs. Quins 4 managed to bowl Delta 5’s last batsman out with the team six runs short of tying the match in the 22nd over. Quins 4’s most successful bowler was spinner and team captain Eric Cavanagh, who took three wickets for 16 runs in 14 deliveries. L Govender, M Hildebrandt and R Olivier took two wickets each.

The first team lost their stream one challenge league match to DHS/Rhythm at DHSOB and the U11s youth league match did not materialise as the opposition Chatsworth Sporting U11s disappointingly did not arrive at the scheduled venue, Harlequins 2, nor did they advise of their intention not to arrive. This resulted in unnecessary and avoidable inconvenience to all involved in this astute Bluff peninsula based junior team.
