Bank staff deposit tasty dinner at Cheshire Home

"We will continue supporting them in any way possible,"

THE news of the Cheshire Home in Wentworth closing its doors have drawn the attention of bank staff who, on Thursday night, 17 November, visited the home and prepared dinner for the residents and workers.

Manager of Cheshire Home, Sharita Bundhu said their crisis was a wake-up call. “We faced the risk of closing down because we only have enough reserves see us through for the next six months. We are basically grasping at straws, trying to make ends meet,” said Bundhu.

The South African government contributes half the amount required for the homes expenses and the rest is collected through fundraisers and the generosity of companies and community members. “We ask the community to help alleviate the problem by helping or volunteering their time, even if it means providing a meal for residents or driving them around. Anything will help,” said Bundhu.

Standard Bank heard her plea and a team of staff members headed by the Bluff branche’s head of transformation, Noel Arjuna used finances from their own pockets, along with the help of some generous business clients, to supply the home with supper.

“This is part of our corporate social investment to support organisations. We thank Mason’s Car Sales and The Tailor Shop who went out of their way to contribute to this lovely dinner. We want to use this as awareness for other companies to jump on board and assist Cheshire Home. We will continue supporting them in any way possible,” said Arjuna.

Bundhu thanked Standard Bank staff for visiting to see what needs to be done. “My biggest fear is if we do close where do the residents go, I ask others to follow the example that Standard Bank has set and help us,”she said.
