Wentworth NPO to be evicted

The NPO relies on the goodness of the community and businesses to fund them

IT might be the end of the road for non-profit organisation (NPO) Wentworth Angels which is struggling to keep its doors open.

Being seven months in arrears for their rent, they were given until Monday, 31 October to evacuate their premises which is leased to them by a church. “We need to come up with R34,000 in rent in order to keep this house. I can’t do it on my own, I am sick with stress, I practically live on pills. I don’t know how I’m going to find a way out – I’m drowning,” cried founder of Wentworth Angels, Tracey Williams.

The NPO relies on the goodness of the community and businesses to fund them through donations and support of their many fundraisers. All money raised at fundraisers has gone towards the water, lights and rent.

For four years the NPO has become a home for the lost and homeless and for those who seek refuge from abuse. Right now, the house is home to a number of children living with her who have lost their parents through violence or drugs. “If our doors close, what will happen to these children? They will be put into a system and be forgotten. What about the community who relies so heavily on Wentworth Angels? I can’t leave them, this is my greatest fear. All I have to do is close my eyes and I can imagine their faces; I know that each child has a name, a heart, a dream; Their lives are just as valuable as yours or mine,” she said.

At her wit’s end, Williams is struggling to keep it together, as the day of eviction slowly creeps up. “To be honest, I’m falling apart and I feel like I should give up. I’m on my own and I don’t know what to do.”

She pleads with the community to continue supporting her and those she cares for. A fundraiser will be held on Saturday, 29 October at the Dance Cafe themed, #SaveWentworthAngelsHome at 9pm. For more information contact Tracey Williams on 074-703-1393.
