Montclair burglars hit three homes in two days

Be alert and don't leave any valuables lying around

CRIMINALS went on a shopping spree in the Montclair area, ransacking three homes last Tuesday and Wednesday, 20 and 21 September.

A Montclair resident who’s also a police officer returned home to find her house had been broken into. Burglars turned the bed over and threw all her clothes on the floor. She noticed her TV, DVD and even the toaster was missing. The criminals also took pepper spray, two handcuff keys, a holster and constable flashes.

The following day, 21 September a Yellowwood Park home was hit. The victim’s wife returned home to find the burglar guards from the garage was lying on the floor. The criminals had gained entry through the garage doors and took a gym bag, a bicycle, a gazebo, a tool bag and a cellphone.

Later that day, a Woodhaven resident was woken up at about 9.30pm when she heard a car reversing up her driveway crash into the carport. The unknown criminals got a fright and ran away, leaving her car behind.

When it was safe, the woman went to investigate and found her laptop and TV was missing. The burglars had gained access by forcing the burglar guard and door open.

Captain Dereck Vijiam from Montclair SAPS said residents must be alert and not leave any valuables lying around. “It makes it easy for criminals. Be vigilant while locking up, put the burglar alarms on and don’t leave windows open. Criminals look for any opportunity to strike,” he said.
