Rain washes out Wentworth BC comps

Bowlers are reminded of the monthly Grand Rapid Spur Big Jim on Sunday, 25 September. Play starts at 9am.

THE recent intemperate weather has played havoc with club competitions at Wentworth Bowling Club, causing the postponement of many games.

Members are asked to be vigilant and check for repostings.

Last week’s Family and Friends development bowls saw newcomer Helen Hill partner with Eileen du Plessis and Johan Swanepoel to take the day’s honours. Johnny ‘Mooiman’ du Plessis and Albert van Niekerk took home the weekly biscuit prize. Vickie Williams and Eileen du Plessis ensured the 60/40 board was a clean sweep for the women when they won first and second prizes respectively.

In Friday’s Bluff Meat Supply men’s competition, Chris Pozyn and Derek Stevens accumulated a healthy plus 22 to take the first prize. Colin Nicholas, Tom Cloete and Ivor Aylward ended the morning’s play in second place. The sportsmen’s prize went to Kurt Spack, Brian Smith and Hennie Marais. Number 87 proved lucky for Pieter Snyman who heard the number called from the floor to give him the substantial pork roast. Tom Cloete added to his morning’s spoils by taking home the beef roast. Herbie Hoffman and Ken Thomas were the winners on the first 60/40 board and Jumbo Nel and Ken Koch pocketed the booty off the second board.

Birthday wishes are extended to ‘Oom’ Dirk Venter who celebrated an active 91 years last week. Happy birthday ‘Oom’, members look forward to enjoying your banter on and off the greens for many years to come.
