Praise for K9 unit arrest

Molly gets rewards for helping make an arrest.

LOCAL canine hero, Molly and fellow police officers had their day when Brighton Beach police station awarded them on Tuesday, 6 September for exemplary work.

Station commander, Colonel Carel Grobler handed certificates of achievement to the team for the arrest of a Clairwood hijacker in August, along with the recovery of a firearm and evidence.

According to media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, the star of the award ceremony was Molly, who won the hearts of all.

Coupled with her certificate, Molly was bestowed a Brighton Beach safer communities’ medal – an exclusive reward for police dogs who excel in the Brighton Beach SAPS area and a tin of dog food.

A partnership with Grand Rapids Spur meant the officers, including Molly, each received a meal voucher.

“Grand Rapids Spur feels honoured to reward Molly and the team for their amazing work. During Women’s Month, Molly made her fellow police female officers proud. We will continue supporting Brighton Beach SAPS in their fight against firearm related crimes by rewarding members who recover firearms used in the commission of an offence with a meal voucher as part of our business against crime strategy,” said manager, Willie Aucamp.

“Brighton Beach SAPS management acknowledges W/O Marius Van Der Looy from Brighton Beach SAPS detective services and Umlazi K9 Unit members, Molly with her handler Const Musa Khanyile and W/O Gregory Strydom. Your teamwork has not gone unnoticed and is commended,” said Capt Le Roux.
