Jacobs businesses clear trash from railway line
Local volunteers come together to clean up their surrounds.
IN what was the first step in a bid to reinvigorate Jacobs, a local engineering company gathered volunteers for a clean-up on Saturday, 3 September.
Locomotive Engines and General Engineering (LEGE) along with helpers from Engen, Mondi and Flint Construction, walked along the railway line near their offices picking up trash and clearing the tracks.
The strewn litter and other debris not only affects the look of the area but poses health risks to people working nearby.
“With our office based in Jacobs, it is sad to see how people dump and don’t care about their neighbourhood. With this in mind we want to challenge other businesses to do the same and clean the area outside where they operate from,” said LEGE rail operations and administration manager, Ig Grunewald.
Following on from this the company also hopes to get involved in a Jacobs forum with the aim of improving the aesthetics and health of the area.
