New MEC tours with Sharks Board

KZN Sharks Board is one of the 12 institutions under MEC Zikalala

NEWLY elected MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) Sihle Zikala undertook an educational tour of Durban harbour on Friday, 19 August.
Thanks to the KZN Sharks Board (KZNSB), MECZikala was given the chance to learn more about its operations and to also meet with the KZNSB CEO, Mthokozisi Radebe.

The Shark Board is responsible for maintaining shark nets and drum lines off the KZN coast to protect bathers and surfers from shark attacks, at 38 places, along 320km of coastline. The visit took place during the morning meshing exercise of the KZNSB crew where they get to change and check the nets along Durban’s beaches.
KZN Sharks Board is one of the 12 institutions under MEC Zikalala which include the Ithala Finance Development Corporation, the Dube Tradeport Industrial Development Zone, the Moses Kotane Institute, Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission, the KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority, the KwaZulu-Natal Small Business Development Agency, Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife, KwaZulu-Natal Growth Fund and Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal.
KZNSB is one of the key roleplayers in coastal and marine tourism in KZN and a major participant of the Oceans Economy, Operation Phakisa.
