Woodlands home owner distraught as fence collapses in rains
She is embarrassed at the state of her garden, she refuses to leave her home
A Horace Avenue home owner’s fence was destroyed during last week’s driving rain.
According to the avid gardener and pensioner, Delene Van Rooyen, this is not the first time that this happened to her once beautiful and thriving home. “It’s been an ongoing problem since 20 June 2012, when my property was been destroyed the first time. It was fixed by my insurance but when it happened again, I was told I could not be helped,” she said.
She is embarrassed at the state of her garden, she refuses to leave her home or have anyone visit her, cutting herself off from the world. My property has so much potential but I can’t fix it up myself, especially since I suffer from cervical spinal stenosis. I am so depressed by my situation. I have worked all my life and I can’t enjoy it anymore,” she said.
Another problem is her two dogs are trained to protect her and having a gashing hole in the fencing poses a threat to a school child walking past. “They tease my dogs and I can’t be responsible for a bitten child when the hole is not of my doing,” she added.
