Stainbank WI looks forward to tea garden outing

The meeting ended with the raffles, money board and the swindle and then the WI prayer. Stainbank WI's next meeting will be held on 2 August.

STAINBANK Women’s Institute president Arlene Greenfield opened the meeting with a big welcome to all members and special visitors.

Everyone stood for a minute to remember special member, Heather Roper who died recently.

After the singing of Unity, there were apologies from Bernadette Jarman and Lynne Graham. The president signed the minutes and the secretary read out the correspondence from group, advising of the Highway workshops during July and December which sound very interesting. Do give them a try. There was also a letter from Noleen Walker regarding outgoing Federation president, Rosemary Killen.

The charities were Evelyn House and Crow. Stainbank WI is nearly at the R1,000 mark so do assist this great local wildlife charity. Two members, Beattie Johnson Webber and Flo Harper have been busy knitting baby wear and jerseys for underprivileged children. Thank you very much to them.

Add 20 July to your diary, which is when Stainbank WI will meet at 9.30am to go for tea at the Green Dragon tea garden. Before the tea break, local candidate councillor, Gavin Hegter gave a short talk on the process of voting and asked if anyone needed special votes or assistance.

Birthday wishes were extended to three special members – Elisabeth Keith, Monica Wilson and Joy McDonald. It is hoped they enjoy a happy day.

The stories that many members had to tell of how they met their husbands, were amazing. Some were engaged within a week or two, while others took three or four years but the great thing is the marriages all lasted a long time. One wonders if that would apply today . Thank you to members for sharing their secrets. It would be interesting if the husbands all agreed with what was said.
