Their stay included various night activities such as amazing race, a presentation on the effects of climate change on our environment, ecosystem study and a sustainable commons tour. Dudu Vilane-Ntombela, senior education officer at Wessa gave an educational talk on environmental issues that affects the generation. “Without the environment, we don’t exist. If we continue on this destructive path of killing our forests, our animals and our oceans, we, in the end, kill ourselves. We educate children to care for the environment by teaching the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing their litter and carbon footprint. We encourage them to share their knowledge with friends and family,” said Ntombela.

The project was a success and these five selected schools benefitted hugely on the Mondi Climate Change School programme.

WESSA Treasure Beach EE Centre thanks Qondokuhle Primary and Buyani Senior Primary from Umlazi, ML Sultan St Mary’s primary and Nizam Road Primary from Merebank and Manzolwandle Primary from Umlazi for their continuous support and commitment to the programme.
