Bizzo to do battle for Japan berth

"Dance is an art form and we don't rush art" - Bizzo

YEARS of Michael Jackson videos and loads of practise has turned Byrone Tifflin, best known as Bizzo, into a popular dancing machine.

The 26-year-old Wentworth dancer has made a name for himself in the dance world as a highly respected and extremely talented break dancer, who has taken his skills to an international level. The 14 years of dancing prowess has landed him second place in the Red Bull BC One, a fast paced competition where only the best of the best compete for a spot in an international world final competition held in Japan. Tifflin along with with other top 16 will go head-to-head on 30 April in Cape Town for the revered title.

Tifflin stresses that dance is a fun sport to get into but a lot of hard work and dedication goes into reaching your peak form. “Dancing is a popular sport and it gets very competitive but for me it gave me an unique perspective on life. With dance we deal with uniqueness and originality so it makes one aware of the type of people we surround ourselves with. Dancing and break dancing has opened a lot of doors for me, it has allowed me to travel and meet other dancers who share my passion,” said Tifflin.

Travelling also allows him and his fellow break dancers to appreciate and learn from others. “It is a huge culture shock because everyone has a different style, every story is unique but the key is to learn from them. Never be afraid to ask questions, go out there and find that one person who is like-minded and just as passionate about dance. Take it one day at a time because it is an art form, and we don’t rush art.”

Byrone, who came second in Durban, will be competing against his friend and fellow Durbanite Preston Kyd ‘Crazy Kayzo’ who placed first in the KZN region.
