Young adventurers get in touch with nature

The next programme will on 6 and 7 July, themed the Survivor kid's challenge

THE WILDLIFE and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) Treasure Beach Environmental Education (EE) Centre ran a children’s holiday safari adventure programme on 23 and 24 March.

The little adventurers spent two days at the forest and wetlands in the WESSA vicinity where they learned about the fauna and flora occupying the ecosystems.

The two days were filled with fun activities and games including crafts, tug of war and their own version of amazing race with clues hidden in the forest. The highlight of the safari adventure was snake man, Nick Evan who had his cold-blooded creatures for show and tell. The little ones were hesitant at first and full of fear but once they learned about the creatures, they grew comfortable around them. WESSA TBEE centre senior education officer, Dudu Vilane-Ntombela said:”Once they understood that snakes are not all bad and they play a crucial role in our environment by being natural pest controllers, they began to relax. It proves that education is essential. I hope their interaction with snakes will make them more cautious and caring.”

To those who have missed the programme, be sure to book you and your friends for the next one on 6 and 7 July, themed the Survivor kid’s challenge.
