COWS splish splash for cash
Next up the COWS are swopping their costumes for cleats and will be tackling the Tour D'Urban on 24 April.
THE fundraising arm of Childhood Haemotology Oncology Clinics (CHOC) – the COWS – raised a massive R225,000 at this year’s Midmar Mile.
The growth in COW participants has increased from 36 swimmers in 2014 to an impressive 120 in 2016.
Schools and corporates also got on board and supported this fundraising initiative. The Oyster Box donated R5,000 to their team of swimmers.
Atholton Primary (Umhlanga), Holy Rosary (Johannesburg) and Penryn College (Nelspruit) sent a squad of swimmers to join the herd this year, and the pupils wore their COW kit with pride. Curro (Hillcrest) raised funds for their swimmer, Carsten Kreinacke through a Valentine’s civvies day while Jaydon Johnson sold biscuits in his complex to help boost the funds raised by Curro.
One of the facilitators of the event for the COWS, Gordon Reid, commended all the COWS for their enthusiasm and support. “It proved to be a great morning out at the dam and everywhere you looked, you just saw COWS. There was so much cow print in support of those little superheroes fighting the big C. We are truly humbled by their incredible enthusiasm, drive, spirit and ‘high hoof’ each and every one of them for this incredible achievement.”
Plans for 2017 include raising the swimming numbers to 500 COWS by getting local schools and swimming schools to join in on the fundraising.
