Parade heralds army base change of command

Parade and band provides much fanfare.

MUCH excitement and spectacle abounded on Friday, 26 February as a parade heralded the change of command of the SA ASB KZN Merebank Military Base.

Colonel Reena Goruknath handed over command of the Army Support Base to Colonel Jacobus Louw on a balmy morning at the Himalayas Road sports grounds. The unit’s band strutted, providing much entertainment with well-known music, before the soldiers presented themselves to the outgoing and incoming officers in charge.

Col Goruknath, who has served as officer commanding at the base since January 2013, said she it was one of the proudest moments of her career.

“I have immensely appreciated the opportunity given to me by this organisation and I am sure the future holds just as much excitement in my new endeavours,” said Col Goruknath.

“To Colonel Louw, I trust the unit will give its full support that I had and I am sure that you too will reach great success with a new team, ASB KZN.”

The two colonels inspected the troops on parade and Col Goruknath officially handed over command to Col Louw before the parade left the fields and marched to their base for the celebration.
