The family will continue his legacy as a great parent and person

THE police force and family of former Warrant Officer Johannes (Uysie) Uys bid farewell to the 78-year-old ex-cop who sadly died on Wednesday, 3 February.

The father of four children and eight grandchildren will always be fondly remembered as a hardworking and dedicated person to his family and to his work.

W/O Uys started his police career at Mountain Rise in Pietermaritzburg, then moved to Kingsrest in Bluff. Over the years he moved on to Wentworth then Montclair. “He was a hardworking person, so much so that the criminals feared him,” said son, Gideon Uys.

The former Warrant Officer would often tell tales of his days in the force before retiring on 28 February, 1992, tales that will undoubtedly be passed from generation to generation.

The policeman who also enjoyed gardening and breeding budgies when he was not catching criminals, lived in Montclair for 47 years. He raised his children in the area and watched them grow up. “He was a strict but understanding person, he supported us as children on the school sports field. He was our greatest supporterand he taught us discipline and important values in life. These values and lessons that we have learned will be passed down to our children, continuing his legacy as a great parent and person,” said Uys.
