Police crack down on drug users

Drug dealing and use is still a major problem in the Wentworth SAPS policing vicinity

STOP and searches have proved fruitful this week for Wentworth SAPS crime prevention unit members who confiscated dagga, heroin and rock cocaine.

On Monday, 15 February, W/O Ivan Suriah’s team was on patrol when they came across a suspicious man in Major Calvert Road. They searched him and found 10 pink capsules suspected to be heroin. On the same day, the team seized small plastic bags containing two grams of dagga.

The following day, 16 February, a Merebank man was arrested for the possession of rock cocaine after a search revealed 19 white plastic bags containing the illegal powder.

Another man was arrested on the same day when he was found with 10 pieces of rock cocaine in Woodville Road.

Communications officer, Lt Mabaso Gumede said drug dealing and use is still a major problem in the Wentworth SAPS policing vicinity and the regular patrols done by the prevention teams are meant to eradicate the problem. “A huge problem is also the youth involvement in drugs and as long as there are illegal substances on the streets, it will continue to destroy the youth. The community needs to work with the police.”
