Lynn lands women’s singles bowls after peeling thrice

On Wednesday saw the “any pairs” competition with first session going to Michelle and Debbie Nortje.

THE start to the new year went off with a bang in very hot and humid conditions.

It was so nice to see all the familiar faces at Woodlands Bowling Club.

On Wednesday the any pairs competition was played, with first session going to Michelle and Debbie Nortje. Second session was won by Gloria Rice and Sonia Moore and overall winners were Doug Moore and Rex Meyer. Ellen Loots grabbed the R40 and Linda Hewer took the dregs of the R20 money board. The meat raffle was won by Doug Moore.

On Thursday it was the casual fours breakfast. Overall winners were Ken Thomas, Bob Hayward, Joe McNamara and Claude Newman on 4+5.

Second session was won by Dawn and Kurt Moore, Gwen Tait and Jo-Anne Jordaan on 2+5 and first session winners were Chris Pozyn, Michelle and Debbie Nortje and Keegan. Dawn Spack won the meat draw with Michelle Nortje and Dawn Spack snooping the R40 money board with Brian Smith and Robbie Carr taking the crumbs of R20.

Saturday’s overcast but humid afternoon saw a few club championships being played. The final of the mixed nominated pairs was played between Harold Dix and Gloria Rice against Rina Harper and Andy Cloete. Rina and Andy won by 22 to 12 shots. Dennis Holloway and Dave Lloyd played the first round of the men’s singles with Dave winning 21 to 9. The women’s first round of singles was played between Daphne Els and Lynn Carlyle. It was a tight game all the way, having peeled three times during the game, until Lynn won by 21 to 16.
