An UNLUCKY hijacker was left red-faced after members of the SAPS found him bleeding profusely from the groin. When police interviewed him, he stated he had shot himself by accident.
On Wednesday, 9 December, a driver travelling on Higginson Highway was hijacked by two armed men on the N2 off-ramp. The driver was forced out of the vehicle while at gunpoint and the hijackers drove off. The driver quickly informed the police of the hijacking. Members of Lamontville SAPS responded to the call and searched for the stolen car in their area.
During the search they spotted the abandoned vehicle and heard a gun shot. The police found a man bleeding from his groin. He was searched and found in possession of a Sony car stereo and a Garmin navigator which he could not prove ownership of. “It was later established the items were from the hijacked vehicle,” added W/O Poobalan Marimuthu from Montclair SAPS. He was arrested and detained for possession of property suspected to be stolen. “The management of Montclair SAPS commend members on the arrest and recovery,” said W/O Marimuthu.
