Quins’ weekend cricket fixtures rained out

The final round of league cricket matches for the year, but not the final round of the season, will be played on Sunday, 13 December.

ON account of persistent rain during Saturday afternoon, Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the Durban And District Cricket Cricket Union quite correctly announced the cancellation of all cricket matches under their control.

Although Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club had applied comprehensive protective coverage of their prepared wicket at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon, ahead of their KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union stream one Challenge league match against Verulam, rain during the course of the morning with a bleak forecast for the afternoon session left the respective clubs with no alternative but to agree to cancel the match at 8am. As a consequence Quins played no cricket this past weekend, but earned two points for the drawn challenge league match. No points will be awarded for all other Quins teams under the auspices of DDCU.

With the exception of vehicles performing field and asset maintenance, no vehicles are permitted within the bollard areas on the playing fields. Some SAPS members also have a recent tendency to illegally drive vehicles onto the sensitive outfields, which are particularly vulnerable when saturated by rain and are therefore prone to damage. Should responsible residents observe any vehicles on the cricket fields which are not performing maintenance, report such incidents. The club will appreciate such public support.

The final round of league cricket matches for the year, but not the final round of the season, will be played on Sunday, 13 December. Quins first team take on a composite team called Southern Natal at Creston College in a 50 over stream one challenge league encounter commencing at 9am. Quins second team have a 40 over challenge reserve match at Harlequins main oval commencing at 1pm. All other teams have byes.
