Teams go wild for second Conservancy eco-challenge

To top it off, every team was awarded a prize thanks to generous sponsorship from NPC Intercement and some of the conservancy members.

THE Yellowwood Conservancy celebrated Heritage Day with its second annual EcoChallenge.

The venue was Red Bishop Pond, also known as the Sunbird Road storm water attenuation pond, which the conservancy has adopted as one of its projects.

The EcoChallenge is a fun event aimed at introducing our community young and not-so-young to the wealth of wildlife in the area and highlighting conservation issues such as alien plants.

The Conservancy, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife honorary officers and Durban Solid Waste manned various information tables and the teams of four explored the area around the pond in search of clues that directed them to the relevant table where they would have to answer questions on that specific topic. The topics covered were birds, bats, frogs, reptiles, alien plants, mammals, worm farms and recycling.

The day was well attended thanks to the partnership with Yellowwood Park School and the Yellowwood Park Scout troop, and a great time was had by all.

To top it off, every team was awarded a prize thanks to generous sponsorship from NPC Intercement and some of the conservancy members. Although all the teams were winners, the team with the highest points was ‘Team Awesome’.
