A MURDERER was given 18 years in prison thanks to the quick action and investigative work of a Montclair detective.
On 27 September 2014 at about 5.45pm, 17-year-old Thabiso Delani Mbokazi was stabbed to death during an altercation with 28-year-old Sandile Derrick Ngcobo outside block D at the SJ Smith Hostel.
Mbokazi died at the hostel, following a fight with Ngcobo who chased him down and stabbed him in the chest.
The quick-acting W/O Rico Naidoo was able to track down Ncgobo at about 8.30pm that night.
On 21 September Ngcobo, who hailes from Lamontville, was found guilty of murder in Durban L Regional Court, sentenced to 18 years in prison and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“The management of Montclair SAPS commends the member for his hard work and perseverance in tracing the suspect. The dedication and hard work is noted and appreciated,” said communications officer, W/O Poobalan Marimuthu.
