MEC pleased by arrest in Montclair double murder

Government has plans for errant hostels.

“This arrest will send a very loud and clear message that the long arm of the law will always catch up to suspects,” said KZN MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, Willies Mchunu about the arrest of a man for Monday’s shooting of two Glebelands Hostel men earlier this month.

The MEC welcomed the arrest of the man involved in the murder of William Mthembu and Thokozani Machi. He said the arrest proved the police are on top of the situation and added that government has a plan to stabilise the situation in Glebelands and at all other hostels affected by conflicts.

“I take my hat off to the police officers and anyone who was involved in this major breakthrough. I urge the police to continue with the investigation so the suspect can be convicted and sentenced to jail for a very long time.

We also urge police to continue their probe and ascertain if the suspect is not linked to any other cases at the Glebelands Hostel.

As government, we are disgusted by these senseless attacks at hostels. Once again we are calling on whoever might have information in this matter and other cases at Glebelands Hostel to share it with the police so the perpetrators can be brought to book,” he said.
