Car veers off road, strikes teen

Both patients suffered serious injuries

A 17-year-old pupil on her way home from school was hit by an out of control vehicle after it spun out on Kenyon Howden Road in Montclair near Shoprite Checkers at about 3pm today.

Rescue Care paramedics found the badly damaged vehicle on the roadside, the driver having suffered serious injuries as well as the pedestrian he had collided with. Another ambulance was dispatched to assist as well as advanced life support paramedics. Both patients suffered serious injuries including fractures and were stabilised before being transported to various Durban hospitals.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the vehicle to lose control and veer off the road. Police were at the scene and will investigate further.
