Help Crow build new baby antelope enclosure

By supporting fundraising calendar project

THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) rescues, rehabilitates and releases over 50 injured and orphaned antelope every year.

The vast majority of these animals are left orphaned as a result of poaching and illegal dog hunting. The most common species that Crow works with are grey, red and blue duikers, reedbuck, steenbok and bushbuck.

Eliah, the blue duiker, was rescued by Crow when he was just 10-days-old after being found abandoned on the side of road in the Amanzimtoti area with a minor injury above his right eye. Following medical treatment at Crow, the injury has since healed.

Since his admission to Crow in May, Eliah has been under the care of CROW clinic nurse, Kelly Wilyman. Eliah will be released at a safe location later this year. ‘’Both the blue duiker and reedbuck are currently classified as threatened species due to their rapidly decreasing numbers in the wild,’’ said Claire Hodgkinson, Crow director. All the antelope patients that are rescued by Crow are provided with life-saving care and treatment at its Durban-based centre before they are released back into the wild.

Proceeds raised from the sale of the 2016 ‘Contrasts of Africa’ wildlife calendar will enable Crow to build a baby antelope enclosure at their premises in Yellowwood Park. The calendar campaign is organised and run by the voluntary organisation Under an African Sky,  a Compass Medical Waste Services initiative, and over the years the campaign has raised R750,000 for Crow.

The baby antelope enclosure will be used to house the growing number of injured and orphaned baby antelope patients that are being admitted to Crow annually.

To place an order for the 2016 ‘Contrasts of Africa’ calendar visit www.underanafricansky.co.za, email orders@underanafricansky.co.za or phone 031-267-9700 and ask to be put through to Under An African Sky.

The A2 wall calendar is printed in matt on high quality paper and presented in a striking gift box. Each calendar costs R170, excluding postage.
