Surprise for Stainbank WI members

Total: First Aileen Wiggill, second Beattie Johnston Webber, third Phyllis Parsonage.

PRESIDENT of Stainbank Women’s Institute (WI) Arlene Greenfield opened the monthly meeting by welcoming all members, visitors and judges.

After the singing of Unity, the secretary read out the minutes and the treasurer advised on finances.

As usual the social secretary Donna Chelin had some news and a few jokes to tell. Charity for this month is the Salvation Army which is always appreciative of what the WI donates.

Stainbank WI president Arlene advised everyone regarding the raffles for Evelyn House and the Congress raffles. It is good to know that Rosemary Killen will remain as federation president.

Keep in your thoughts those members who may not be very well, in particular Jan Dawson. The raffles, money board and swindles club were then drawn, with Marsha Hart winning the big raffle. After a delicious tea, it was on with the show.

Many WI members had brought items to be valued by speakers, Sheila Astill and Pam Harvey. They were so informative and gave a short talk on each and every item. Many members were very surprised on the approximate price placed on some items, which they had thought were not worth much. Those items will now be placed in a safe, secure spot.

Best wishes to birthday member, Margaret Croshaw and to the members celebrating anniversaries.

Well done to all who enter the competitions, but it would be good to see some new faces giving them a try. Stainbank WI will meet again on the first Tuesday in September at the civic centre.
