Funnell final in men’s singles at Wanderers BC

Good bowling to all those playing in the Dan Draper.

By Bob Hayward

IT was a quiet week at Wanderers Bowling Club which gave the green keeper a chance to properly prepare the greens for the annual week long Dan Draper tournament which got underway on Monday and runs through to Friday, 10 July followed by the popular prize-giving.

The only item of interest to report was the continuation of the men’s open singles starting with the quarter finals.

Results were: Graham Funnell beat Lofty Cawthorne 21-11, Steve Van Rooyen beat Anthony Carr about 21-14, Mike Freeman beat Arnie Harper 21-14 (+-), and Roy Funnell beat Terrance McGlynn 21-something. In the semis, Graham Funnell beat Steve Van Rooyen 21-15, and Roy Funnell beat Mike Freeman 21-something as well.

This sets up a cracking final between the brothers, Graham and Roy Funnell. This will be played after the Dan Draper, possibly next Saturday.

Last Friday’s snowball of R500 was won by Debbie Nortje who was present to collect. A rugby sports jacket was won by Norman Bester. The various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack – Jeff Bolt, rolled beef – Cave James, pork roast – Thomas Simpkins who also won the rump steak, chicken pack – Brian Craig, whole chicken – Porky Hauptfleisch.

Good bowling to all those playing in the Dan Draper.
