School bids farewell to retiring principal

It has been a privilege to work with her over the last few years.

MONTCLAIR Junior Primary School bade farewell to Montclair stalwart, Lynda Kimber last week, who was school principal for the last eight-and-a-half years.

Acting deputy principal, Charlene Vogelsang paid tribute to the departing principal, who decided to take early retirement along with her husband.

“She will be sorely missed by both the staff and the pupils at the school. It has been a privilege to work with her over the last few years. She has been a dynamic leader, who has been an inspiration to the staff of the school,” said Vogelsang.

Kimber grew up, married and raised her children in Montclair, before the family relocated to Durban North. Her teaching career started at Bushlands Primary School, followed by Woodlands Pre-primary School and she later served as principal at Seaview Pre-Primary School and then as deputy principal at Seaview Primary School. In 2007 she took up her final post as principal at Montclair Junior Primary School.

“Kimber has always had a genuinely deep, abiding love for the children that she has taught over the years, and has taken their well-being to heart.

During her tenure as principal of the school, large changes took place to its infrastructure. She was instrumental in persuading a Durban-based organisation to erect a brand new state of the art media and library centre for the school. New classrooms were added to accommodate the ever-expanding population in Montclair.

She will be able to retire with the knowledge that she has left behind a school that is able to offer facilities on par with the best that Durban schools have to offer. We wish her well for her retirement, and hope she has many hours of happiness and contentment ahead of her.”
