OWING to the shortened week because of an early deadline, the only item of note to report on at Wanderers Bowling Club is the results of the first round of the knockout stages of the men’s midweek league.

The qualifying Wanderers team of Steve Van Rooyen, Richard Hendicott, Graham Funnell and Eric Redman came up against a Berea team in the quarter finals played at Hillary Bowling Club.

It was a tense and even match from start to finish with the lead switching places several times, and the opposing (Berea) skip playing the game of his life, causing an 18 shot swing on three ends when the Wanderers lads were holding four, five and six shots on those three occasions only to have the Berea skip drawing ‘the’ shot with his last bowl, thus saving his team from a considerable loss. As it turned out, the consistency of Steve and his team paid off and they ended up winning vital shots in the closing stages to win by 26-21. This puts the Wanderers men into the semi finals of this event, and they will meet Errol Eichstadt and co from Westville Country Club next week. Good bowling, chaps. Keep it rolling.

The main club AGM is to be held on Monday, 4 May at 6pm. Nomination forms are on the notice board. All members are asked to attend.

Main club subs are now overdue. If you have not yet renewed your subs, contact Patti urgently. Update on the hip operation performed on Roz Hayward is that the three-and-a-half hour procedure went off without too many hitches, and happily Roz now faces a lengthy recovery period.
