Hijacker, kidnapper sentenced to 20 years

His sentences will run concurrently.

A 23-year-old man linked to two hijackings and kidnapping was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment on Monday, 16 March.

Siyabonga Nsibande and two others hijacked a man outside KFC in Wood Road, Montclair on 31 January.
At about 8pm, the motorist walked to his car, Nsibande and his accomplices produced a firearm and told the man to get into the car. The men demanded his belongings and drove him to uMnini before fleeing with his car. The man’s Toyota Yaris was recovered in Lamontville.

In the second incident, Nsibande and another man hijacked a motorist in a VW Polo parked at Montclair Mall on 3 Febuary last year. The men pushed the motorist into the car and drove in an unknown direction. Information about the vehicle was circulated and policed tracked it to a petrol station in Cato Manor.
One of the hijackers fled and Nsibande was arrested. Investigating officer Cst SL Mtshali linked Nsibande to the hijacking outside KFC in Montclair.

Nsibande was convicted on two counts of hijacking and 15 years on each count and two counts of kidnapping with five years on each count. His sentences will run concurrently. Nsibande will serve an effective 20 years in prison.

“Montclair SAPS Management commends Cst Mtshali for linking the suspect to two cases,” said communications officer Lt Leopold Jojozi.
