Hikers on a monastic mission

Meet at the sports grounds in time to start hiking at 7.30am promptly.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club explores the Marianhill Monastery and Amanzimtoti this weekend.

On Saturday, 7 March, hikers will do an informative walk in and around the historic area of Marianhill Monastery.

Hikers should meet at 1.45pm in the car park, and have a R20 per person donation on hand for the monastery. This hike is graded one, or easy and is over a distance of 5km.

 

On Sunday, 8 March, hikers undertake a Toti trek.

Hikers will walk along the Toti River area, up to Entombeni Drive, through Toti village, up Kingsway towards Athlone Park. Meet at the sports grounds in time to start hiking at 7.30am promptly. Take along plenty of water as this will be a hot hike. Hikers will enjoy drinks afterwards at the sports bar.

Directions to the sports ground: Take the Adams Road off-ramp. At the stop street turn right. At the robot, turn right again and keep left over the bridge. At the next robot turn left and go down towards Toti River. Cross the bridge and at the stop street at the church, turn right into Riverside Road. Keep going to the second sign that says Amanzimtoti Sportsground. Turn in and park on the left.

This 18km hike is graded two, moderate.
