Business beefs up security in Clairwood

Smash and grabs were continuing and common robberies of cell phones and large handbags being carried on the street were of great concern.

A CLAIRWOOD business sector meeting chaired by Kuben Naidoo at 7pm on Thursday, 27 November at at Montclair SAPS board room noted with pleasure the resumption of a street security guard project in the area.

Business Sector liaison member Juan van Dyk advised all present that their Street Security Guard project was back in place in certain areas of the Clairwood business district. Some business owners in the area had joined in to re-establish the guarding project and put measures in place to ensure that crime was deterred for all businesses. He appealed to the rest of the Clairwood business community to join them in ensuring that this project would be financially viable throughout the year and not just in the festive season.
One of the problems arising, it was pointed out, was the public still leaving valuable articles visible in their vehicles and on their person. Smash and grabs were continuing and common robberies of cell phones and large handbags being carried on the street were of great concern.

The increased use of the two way radio system between businesses was working very well with communication being much improved and immediate warnings of crime and criminal presence being reported between businesses and to Juan van Dyk, which elicited quick SAPS response. SAPS Captain S Perumal and Lt Leopold Jojozi were thanked for ensuring the ongoing visible SAPS presence in the area and this together with the aforementioned measures had definitely contributed to bringing down the crime statistics by more than 60 %.
