Dozen hurt as taxi crashes into cash van

Passengers were still climbing out of the wreckage when paramedics arrived.

PARAMEDICS encountered a serious taxi accident while en route to hospital with another patient on the N2southbound after the M7 on Sunday morning just before 6am.

“Rescue Care paramedics en route to hospital came around the corner to find a taxi had collided with a cash in transit vehicle before rolling onto its side. Passengers were still climbing out of the wreckage when paramedics arrived. More ambulances and SAPS and fire officials were called to assist. Twelve people sustained various injuries with one being seriously injured. Once all the injured had been stabilised they were transported to various Durban hospitals,” said operations director Garrith Jamieson.

The cause of the accident is unknown. Police are investigating.
