Roadshow ties in with Christmas pensioners’ party

SDB ABM entertains the elderly.

THE South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management’s (ABM) roadshow came to Clairwood in time to join with the eThekwini Municipality’s Christmas programme on Thursday, 13 November.

The Clairwood Tamil Institute was the backdrop as 600 local senior citizens entertained with fun and games and guest speakers. They were given meals and food parcels and health assessments. The aim of the campaign was to promote health, wellness and safety while celebrating the annual festivities.

“We wanted this Christmas to be different by inviting the various municipality departments. I welcome them all and I thank the SDB ABM for making this happen for us,” said ward 32 counsellor, William Zenzile.

Among the various speakers were Sister Nomusa Luthuli from the health department and eThekwini Fire Services’ fire fighters. Brighton Beach SAPS Warrant Officer Ngubane spoke to the assembly about safety. “Trust your instinct – if you feel uneasy, make sure you leave that area. Always make sure a family member knows where you are at all times and keep doors locked at all times,” he said.

SDB ABM social development co-ordinator, Anitha Govender said: “The SDB, through our social development programme, is committed to working together with all stakeholders to improve the quality of life of the communities we serve.” eThekwini Speaker, councillor Logie Naidoo added: “We honour the senior citizens. I commend the effort to include health, wellness and safety as part of the programme, as these are important issues for our elders.”
